CBN.com On August 6, 2012, Michael W. Smith will take the stage in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to "lift the spirits" of U.S. troops and their families in his first USO appearance. The veteran Christian music artist is performing "a motivational, all-inspiring USO show featuring countless chart-topping hits", according to Provident Label Group.
Though Smitty, as he's known by fans around the world, has supported our nation's military service members for years through various programs and concerts, he has never been on a USO Tour.
"Our nation's troops and military families are among the bravest and most selfless people I
know and we, as a nation, owe them not only our respect and gratitude but also our time," Smith says. "I am just honored for the opportunity to travel to Guantanamo Bay with the USO and extend our nation's thanks for their service."
According to a new release from Provident Label Group, USO President Sloan Gibson is thrilled with having Smitty on board for this tour to Cuba.
"It is a real privilege to be working with Michael W. Smith, who has accomplished so much in music and is beloved by millions of people around the world for his spirit lifting music and literary works," says Gibson. "His passion for supporting our troops matches that of the USO's and we are honored that he is going to lift the spirits of the troops and their families on a USO tour to Guantanamo Bay."
Given his support for the military and his songs, "Heroes" and "The Patriot" from his album, Glory, it looks like the Armed Forces serving in Cuba are in for an uplifting concert today.
