'And the Truth Will Make You Free'

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM - Monday's press conference in New York gave Simcha Jacobovici and James Cameron's new documentary, The Lost Tomb of Jesus, a running start at the box office.
It must have cost a pretty penny to insure and ship the heavy stone ossuaries for the occasion, but there's nothing like the "real thing" to get their prospective audience revved up about seeing the film.
And if the stone caskets didn't do it, certainly Jacobovici's enthusiasm for the project would.
"The tomb is there," he declared at the press conference. "This is the beginning."
From the filmmakers' perspective, they've got an airtight case. They've done their research, covered their bases, and talked with the experts. They're convinced.
"We've done our homework, we've made our case," said Cameron. "Now it's time for the debate to begin."
And indeed it has.
But here's the Good News. When it comes to the truth, the Bible can't lose.
If this film stirs the debates hoped for by its director and producer, that's a good thing.
If it brings people to their Bibles to read about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, that's a very good thing.
And, better yet, if people approach the debate with a genuine hunger for the truth, they'll meet The Truth.
You know why? Because God is good. He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abundant in mercy.
In this case, the truth really is stranger than fiction, though infinitely more wonderful.
"Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." (Acts 1:9-11)
Instead of angry indignation, we should pray that the Lord will use this film to bring many to the truth that will really set them free.
