Video: Giuliani on His Family
September 28, 2007
When I sat down with Rudy Giuliani in Santa Barbara, he took the time to open up a little about his family. He believes that some people have been too judgemental. It's a heartfelt answer. Watch above, read below:
I love my family very, very much. I think that there are some people that are very judgmental. I was just on a radio show and it wasn't the particular interviewer who ws asking me the question, and I said I'm guided very, very often about "Don't judge others lest you be judged." I'm guided a lot by the story of the woman that was going to be stoned, and Jesus put the stones down and said "He that hasn't sinned cast the first stone," and everybody disappeared. It seems like nowadays in America we have people that think they could've passed that test. And I don't think anybody could've passed that test but Jesus.
And my family is very, very important to me, and I love them very much. This is something that I've tried to do as much as I could to keep them out of any kind of unfortunate controversies, and the reality is the less you talk about these private things in your life the lest you get exploited. They get exploited anyway, so what I try to do is put emphasis on my public life.
People need to know about my private life to figure out how am I going to handle my public responsibilities, and they can look at whatever turmoil or difficulties that have been in my private life ,and they can see that during that period of time I was able to handle my public responsibilities and it hasn't affected it. So I think they can have confidence that my private life is not terribly different from most other people it's probably more difficult than some and less difficult than others.
It stands somewhere in the middle of things, but you look at my public performance, and I think we'd be a healthier country if we spent more time doing that than sort of the gossip side of it.
