Video: Hillary's Faith Director on Brody File

Aril 14, 2008

Watch Low Band

The Brody File was in the “Message Room” (not the spin room) after The Compassion Forum. Brody File producer Robin Mazyck talked with Hillary Clinton’s Faith Director Burns Strider. (I was tied up doing a live hit on CNN. I was fulfilling my narcissistic desires) As for Burns, he rarely does on camera interviews so we are honored. Watch above.

Strider: I get to experience the heartfelt all the time -- working for her and with her and getting to experience that soul and that special heart she has and it was such a blessing tonight to see her share that with the country and talk from her heart about her faith and about how it drives her in public life to strive to do the things she does.

It was a great night. I thought it was a special night because 25 percent of our nation are evangelicals, 30 percent is Catholic, millions of mainlines.

We're a faithful nation and people want to know how are you going to solve a problem. They want to know what drives you, what's your motivation and getting to talk about your faith, and in her case her United Methodism and being a Methodist from middle America and learning how to pray at the side of the bed with her dad. It was really special. It was a good night.

I think that good things are happening in the county and we can feel good about a lot of the direction that the faith communication is going. Because there tends to be, these last couple of years, a desire to have a broader conversation with the whole of the country. From the political side, Democrats are starting to say 'we've gone a long time now without having a conversation with everybody and we're reaching out.'

We' re saying we want to come. We want to sit down at your Baptist church. We want to talk to you about the issues. We know we are not going to agree on all of them, but we're going to agree on some. And we want to talk about that.

And at the same time, the faith community has been receptive and we've been able to have a lot of conversations and make a lot new friends around the country. And that makes us all better. Because we get to know each other and inform each other from a faith perspective and a political perspective.
