Another Reason I Hate Politics

May 31, 2008

In an interview yesterday with the San Francisco Chronicle, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made one of the most heinous statements I've heard in quite some time. She credited the success of the troop surge in Iraq to the Iranians.

"Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn't happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn't accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians."

(*Cough*)( *Choke*) EXCUSE ME? The goodwill of the Iranians? You mean, like this goodwill?

Or this?

Or how about this?

Coming from the top Democrat in congress, this is an absolute outrage. And nary a peep about it from CNN, Fox, MSNBC or ABCNews.

It could be that she's referring to the cease-fire called for by Muqtada Al Sadr in Basra after watching his army decimated by the new Iraqi Army.

But what the media failed to cover there is that even though Al Sadr called for a cease fire, and made various threats if the Iraqis didn't quit killing his guys, the IA never let up , and now markets are opening again in Basra and Sadr City.

I guess the "goodwill" Pelosi is referring to is the goodwill that Iran showed towards Mookie by letting him hide out in their country while his fighters were getting their heads handed to them on a plate.

For the Speaker of the House to credit the enemy for any progress, thereby deriding and discounting the incredible sacrifices being made by our forces is absolutely unconscionable.

And if you live in California, you should write Congresswoman Pelosi and tell her so. Madame Speaker, you should be ashamed of yourself.
