CBNNews.com - PERSIAN GULF - Iran's Revolutionary Guards test fired nine medium- and long-range missiles in the Persian Gulf and Straits of Hormuz Tuesday.

Among the nine missiles was an improved Shahab 3, which can target cities 1,250 miles away, according to the Islamic Republic's state-run media.

The missile tests followed remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at a press conference in Malaysia Tuesday that Iran does not foresee a war with the United States or Israel.

"I assure you there won't be any war in the future," Ahmadinejad told reporters on the sidelines of a summit for developing Muslim nations.

Meanwhile following the meeting in Hokkaido, Japan, G-8 leaders issued a joint statement urging Iran to cease its uranium enrichment program.

French President Nicholas Sarkozy said a group of world powers -- US, France, Britain, Germany, China and Russia -- will dispatch EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana to Iran for discussions on an incentives package offered to the Islamic Republic last month.

The incentives package rests on the condition that Iran suspend its uranium enrichment program, which Ahmadinejad tagged an "illegitimate" request.

Nonetheless, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in Prague to sign an agreement to build a US missile defense site in the Czech Republic, said Ahmadinejad could be enticed to meet with Solana and/or other representatives of world powers to convince Iran to stop enriching uranium.
