Something dramatic happened in Beijing today. For the first time in weeks, the Chinese capital saw blue skies! The clouds were puffy, the air was fresh and people on the streets were soaking it all in.

The government has spent over $17 billion trying to clean up the chocking air. In recent weeks, they've shut down factories and cut the city's traffic in half.

The government promised 16 days of blue skies from the start of the Olympic Games. It never happened. Today, for the first time, in a long time, Beijingers saw the color of the sky-- and it was brilliant!
