John McCain and his running have different views on the evolution debate, but neither have pushed their stance on the issue.
Gov. Sarah Palin has said publicly that she backs creationism in schools, but did not force the idea as Alaska's governor.
Palin called for teaching both creationism and evolution in schools at one point in her run for governor, but once in office she decided not to promote the idea.
Still, the former governor says she believes we have a creator and alternative views on the origins of life should be allowed.
"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," Palin said. "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."
John McCain has said he believes in evolution but says he can see the handiwork of God whenever he hikes the Grand Canyon.
