CBNNews.com - The Supreme Court will decide soon whether the Federal Communications Commission can impose fines for profanity use on television.

The FCC fines networks that use profanity during the day or early evening.

But in 2002 and 2003, Fox Broadcasting challenged that law after at least three celebrities used profanity during live award shows. Entertainers Cher, Nicole Richie, and Bono each uttered familiar, but profane words on different awards shows.

The FCC changed its long-standing policy that exempted such "fleeting expletives" from being labeled indecent.

Now, the networks are fighting to use it at any time.  The Supreme Court will review the policy on profanity next month.
