Judges, Judges, Judges

Do you want to know a significant way the Midterm Elections will affect the direction of the country? Well, besides the Iraq war, let’s look at the U.S. Supreme Court. Now that Democrats control the Senate, Senator Patrick Leahy will control the gavel in the Senate Judiciary Committee. That means good luck trying to get any strict constructionist judge through to the Supreme Court. Don’t think for a minute President Bush will be able to get a Samuel Alito type through that committee. Janice Rogers Brown? Forget it. There have been rumors that Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens may retire soon. He is 87 after all. But if he does, the President will be hard pressed to get a real true blue conservative on the bench. He may have to go middle of the road just so he can get someone through. There’s an interesting article on the whole judges issue by Manuel Miranda, leader of the Third Branch Conference.
