I’ve been saying for quite sometime that there’s no way Democrats are going to push a liberal agenda through the House or Senate. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have both said they would not do that and I believe them. Why? Because it would be a bad move politically to do otherwise. Think about it. First of all, any real liberal legislation will be vetoed by the President so why even go there. Moreover, this is all about winning the White House in 2008. What the Democrats need to do is show Americans they can govern from the center. In turn, they’re banking on that being the winning ticket for taking back the White House in 2008. Now, with a House and Senate presumably still controlled by Democrats (not a sure thing but quite possible) and a Democratic President (read: Hillary Clinton) what you have is at that point a platform to push more of a liberal agenda.
