One Night with the King and Ahmadinejad

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that One Night with the King opened in theatres across the country this week.  Based on the story on Esther in the Bible, the movie shows how the brave Queen Esther at the risk of her life approached the King of Persia and exposed the evil Haman and his plot to destroy the Jewish people.

In that same spirit of Haman, the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this week uttered some of the most threatening statements toward Israel and the Jewish people since the time of Hitler or Haman.  At a rally marking the Islamic Republic’s Jerusalem Liberation Day, he declared there is no reason for Israel “the greatest insult to human dignity” to exist and said it would soon disappear.  Furthermore, he gave Europe because of its support for Israel an ultimatum to “distance itself from Israel at once.”

Earlier this week, as reported by MEMRI, Middle East Media Research Institute, Ahmadinejad stated 'I have a connection with God,' since God said that the infidels will have no way to harm the believers.  Well, [but] only if we are believers, because God said: You [will be] the victors.”  He also promised Iran would continue its pursuit of nuclear energy and would not suspend uranium enrichment “even for one single day.”  In fact, he said Iran stands on the threshold of a nuclear breakthrough:  “ (We) must expect a great [Iranian] victory, because we have [only] one step remaining before we attain the summit of nuclear technology."

Nuclear power in the hands of today’s Iranian regime represents the greatest threat to the state of Israel and the Jewish people.  Once long ago, Haman made similar plans to exterminate God’s chosen people.  Through prayer, fasting and the heart of a brave and beautiful Jewish queen, his plot came to an inglorious end.  Might the God of Israel be looking for steadfast hearts and similar spiritual plans today to thwart the evil intentions of Iran’s President and his regime?
