Whether it’s in Iraq, Lebanon, Somalia or the West Bank, wars, conflicts, and unstable governments are at the center of the news.  They may be separated by geography, but one common element connects all these dots.  They’re areas where a radical Islamic agenda is at work.

CBN NEWS: Why do you feel this is an important time to come out with this documentary?

RAPHAEL SHORE: The movIe Obsession was critical actually to come at this time because most people are unaware that radical Islam has declared war on the West, and they appreciated for a few days after 9/11. But because there have been no more attacks on mainline United States, they don’t realize that the effort is still there across the globe to try to undermine the West.  Obsession is an attempt to reveal and educate the American public on what the aims, the goals and the strategies of the radical Islamists are and it’s something to be afraid of.

CBN NEWS: How serious a threat is radical Islam?    

SHORE: The threat of radical Islam is very serious because they’re not playing games and their intent is to undermine Western civilization.  They often refer to the Americans or the Europeans as Crusaders.  And people wonder, ‘what are they talking about?’ and the answer is that they view this as a 1000 year war, more than a thousand years of Islam against Christianity, Judeo-Christian values they’re fighting and they view it, okay, we were down for a few hundred years, well we’re on the march now, we’re going to go back up and we’re going to put Christianity down and Islam up.  And until they reach victory, terror is going to continue. 

CBN NEWS: Do you feel people in the West and particularly Americans realize the seriousness of this threat?

SHORE: I think that most people who live in democracies want to lead a comfortable life, and they want to believe that everybody around them and everybody in the world is like them, peace loving, tolerant, enjoy the idea of freedom of speech and freedom of religion.  But they don’t want to realize that there might have to be a fight.  In today’s generation when radical Islam has declared war on the West, it is very difficult for Americans to realize it.  In the same way, that before World War II, the world did not want to appreciate how a great a threat the Nazis were.  And even though Adolf Hitler said what he wanted to do, and the Nazis were very explicit, the world did not want to fight because who wants to fight?  Democracies, people in democracies don’t want to fight.  But they were serious and eventually the West had to fight , and unfortunately the parallel to today’s situation is very extreme.
