British leaders continue to get hysterical over the global warming “threat.” Prime Minister Tony Blair is warning that a new study out today proves that the world faces “disastrous” consequences from “climate change.”
Britain’s largest circulation newspaper, The Sun says: “The Stern Report will warn that nearly half of the world’s species face extinction if there is a two percent increase in global temperatures. The rise in temperature would wipe out 40 percent of all life and turn 200 million people into refugees. “
The solution? Why, taxes, of course. One of Blair’s cabinet members now says a British family of four should pay another $2,460 a year in taxes to fight global warming. That’s an economic killer.
And the punchline? The Brits intend to send the author of the report, former World Bank Economist Sir Nicholas Stern, over here to convince the American government to sign on to this nonsense. The British government views the White House as the “mission field” on this quasi-religious issue.
I’ll give you climate change. When the Mount Krakatau volcano blew in the sixth century, spewing an immense ash cloud into the earth’s atmosphere, there was no summertime in parts of the world, the sun was blotted out and the rainfall turned red. People starved and many believed it was the end of the world. A Syrian bishop, John of Ephesis, wrote of 535-536 A. D.: "There was a sign from the Sun, the likes of which had never been seen or reported before. The Sun became dark, and its darkness lasted for about 18 months. Each day, it shown for about four hours and still this light was only a feeble shadow. Everyone declared that the Sun would never recover its full light again."
No SUVs in the year 535. Nor were there in 1350 when Little Ice Age kicked in for about 500 years. It was still lingering when our nation was founded. The Earth’s temperature has fluctuated throughout history.
A much bigger danger than a slight rise in the earth’s temperature is when bad science, politically correct dogma, and government schemes coalesce into a perfect storm. Steer clear of that funnel cloud.
