It wasn't too long ago when these children were surrounded
by violence in war-torn Sudan.
They lived completely at the mercy of brutal militias. And while the boys
and girls are alive, many of their friends and family members weren't so
lucky.
Now, these survivors are called “The Forgotten ones.” They
have found shelter in Cairo, Egypt, where they've come into the open arms
of Strategic World Impact.
"The Bible tells us very clearly -- pure and undefiled religion is
simple: it's to care for the widow, to care for the orphan in their distress,"
said Kevin Turner, President of SWI.
In one week during January, SWI teamed with local churches in a massive
campaign to help out more than 2,300 refugee children. They gave the children
free lunches and vitamins and conducted health screenings. n some cases,
they detected and treated potentially life threatening diseases.
But SWI isn't just meeting the physical needs of these refugees. They're
meeting spiritual ones as well, showing kids who may think that they've
been forgotten, that there is a God who is ready to show His infinite love.
"God takes nobodies, and he makes them somebodies in Christ Jesus,”
Turner said. “He takes those people, and uses them to set nations
free for the power of the Gospel."
