Everyone likes a deal - especially during the holidays. With social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter great holiday bargains are now just a mouse click away.
Rachel Hollan, a mother of three, tweeted her way to big savings.
"I got all of my kids Christmas presents at Target this year at 75 percent off," she said.
Holland says it is all thanks to her favorite social networking site.
"I knew exactly when the sale started, because of Twitter."
Potential users of Facebook and Twitter can register for free on each site's respective home page. Consumers can save even more money when they 'friend' their favorite stores. In response, stores send out 'tweets' or information about secret sales via the Twitter Web site.
Holland searched for members who share savings information. Before long, she had a stream of real time coupon codes, free shipping and member's only in-store sales information.
"It's a community of people. It's a social network coming together to help each other save money," said Loren Bendele, CEO of Savings.com
For example, the Web site Woot has 1.5 million Twitter followers.
Many retailers are attracting a whole new group of customers via social media.
"In some ways its even better than searching for a coupon online because you know exactly when it comes out and you see the comments from others," Holland said.
The deals are out there. To find them, all consumers have to do is register, click, tweet, update and save.
