German Chancellor Angela Merkel says it will take years to solve Europe's debt crisis.

The chancellor is rejecting any quick-fix ideas to help Europe get out its financial mess.
    
Instead, Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy want to change the current regulations of the European Union and improve its financial strength.
     
Merkel says the EU must come up with solid, long-term solutions so it can earn back the trust of the markets.
