Teens Struggling to Find Part-Time Employment

Ad Feedback

Millions of Americans are unemployed, and those disproportionately affected by the dreary economic picture are teenagers searching for part-time work.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said the unemployment rate for those between ages 16 and 19 is at 26 percent, up 10 percent from a decade ago.

Experts say many of the entry-level positions once sought primarily by teens are being nabbed by older, more experienced workers who need the paycheck.

Experts also say the high unemployment rate is costing teens valuable experience and spending money.
