October just started but lots of shoppers are already thinking about Christmas.
The group Time to Play recently revealed its "Most Wanted Toys" list for 2012 holiday season.
Some high-tech favorites this year are the Leap Pad 2 learning tablet, which is like a kiddie version of the iPad and other tablets, as well as the Leapster GS, similar to portable gaming systems like the PSP.
Toys on the list range from under $30 to more than $100. But many retailers are reinstating their layaway plans to cover the costs.
"Because of these aggressive layaway programs, which are great to take advantage of, a lot of these hot items are going to disappear early, go on layaway, and you're not going to find them after Thanksgiving," Jim Silver, with Time to Play, said.
Walmart, Kmart, and Toys"R"Us are all offering early purchasing plans this year.
