For some Americans, this holiday season will offer a little economic relief, with as many as 700,000 seasonal jobs up for grabs.

Economists predict a spike in holiday spending, and companies want to be prepared.

For many unemployed people, even temporary work at a holiday job offers hope.

"It has been hitting pretty hard," jobseeker Maria Buenrostro said. "I mean anything you can get your hands on right now you have to just take it."

This could be the best holiday hiring season in five years, and some companies are already accepting applications.

"I was looking at the diamond store down there, just something for the holidays for some extra income, pay down the credit cards, stuff like that," Matthew Rangel, another jobseeker, said.

Kohl's plans to hire more than 52,000 workers --10,000 more than last year.

Walmart will add about 50,000 temporary positions nationwide, and Target is expected to add as many as 90,000.
