CBN.com(CBN News) - We haven't heard much from Al Gore since the 2000 presidential race, but he is back with a new campaign for one of his signature causes.

Gore is not running for political office right now, but he is making news with a new documentary film.

The documentary is called An Inconvenient Truth, and it deals with one of the former vice president's hot button issues -- global warming. Gore has believed in global warming since college in the 1960s, when he took a class from Roger Revelle, a pioneer in studies on global warming.

Part of the movie’s narrative declares, "Temperature increases are taking place all over the world …and that's causing stronger storms."

Movie critics have been left buzzing – the movie got three standing ovations at the Sundance Film Festival, and it is also getting rave reviews.

"The arctic is experiencing faster melting. If this were to go, sea level worldwide would go up 20 feet. This... is what would happen in Florida…Here's Manhattan. The World Trade Center Memorial would be under water," Gore said.

But not everyone is on board with Gore's way of thinking. They disagree with how he takes one of the most debated subjects of the day and presents it as fact, and how the former vice president paints the consequences of what would happen if he were right.

"Think of the impact of a couple thousand refugees,” he said. “And then imagine, a 100 million...”

This promotional text appears on the screen: "By far the most terrifying movie you'll ever see" -- "If you love your planet... if you love your children... You have to see this film."

Gore's movie debuted at last winter's Sundance Film Festival and opens in U.S. theaters Wednesday.
