Scientists and astronauts are wanting to form an organization to monitor asteroids.
MSNBC reports they're estimating that more than 300,000 asteroids might hit the Earth within the next 10-15 years.
Scientists are also wanting to involve the United Nations in coordinating response efforts for any potential "Cosmic Katrina."
They say efforts to change an incoming asteroid's path might turn the object toward another part of the world.
But one spokesman says it may be years before a plan to warn of cosmic threats is implemented.
