The FDA warned consumers Wednesday to stop using Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Spray because it can permanently damage their sense of smell.

The over-the-counter products contain zinc, an ingredient scientists say may damage nerves in the nose needed for smell.

The FDA says about 130 consumers have reported loss of their sense of smell after using Zicam products.
