A Los Angeles fertility institute could soon offer a procedure in which parents choose the gender of their child and even hair and eye color.

The technique involves taking a three-day old embryo, testing it in a lab, then implanting in the mother's womb.
The method has been used to prevent life-threatening diseases, but the clinic says it can be used to select cosmetic traits.
One critic told the BBC, "This is the inevitable slippery slope of a fertility process which results in many more embryos being created than can be implanted. Choices will always have to be made. Do you choose octuplets or the ones with the prettiest noses?"
