Senate Seeks Tax on Soda and Sugar Drinks

Ad Feedback

Senate leaders are looking in to a possible federal tax on pop and other sugary drinks to help pay for the country's health care system.

The Wall Street Journal reports the new tax would extend to certain fruit drinks, soda, energy drinks, sports drinks and ready-to-drink teas but the tax would not include most diet drinks.

The journal also reports that at least a dozen states already have some type of tax on sugary beverages.
