The director of the Centers for Disease Control says his children will receive the swine flu vaccine.
Dr. Thomas Frieden says he has a very high confidence in the vaccine, which is expected to be available next month.
With many colleges and schools back in session, Frieden says officials are seeing a fair amount of the flu already. Washington State University has reported 2,000 swine flu cases -- the largest outbreak so far.
"Those numbers are very alarming," said WSU's Dennis Garcia. "We had to divert out clinic, create one component of it that's strictly influenza."
The CDC reports over 9,000 hospitalizations and close to 600 deaths from swine flu so far.
In Ecuador, the government says swine flu is responsible for the death of its chief of security on Sunday.
