Report: December '09 Coldest in 115 Years

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that the weather during the month of December was one of the coldest in U.S. history.

The average temperature in December was just 30.2 degrees. That marks the 14th coldest December in 115 years.

According to preliminary data from NOAA, there were 18 days in December where the high temperature was below average, including 15 days when the high temperature was at least 5 degrees below average. There were also five days during the month when the high temperature was at least 10 degrees below average.

There was also two-thirds of an inch more rain and snow than normal last month, making it the11th wettest month on record.
