For the first time in more than 10 years, the government will fund sex education programs not solely based on abstinence.
The federal government will provide a total of $375 million in grants to 28 programs they believe reduce pregnancy rates, no matter their focus.
About half the programs aim to boost teens' academics and get them involved in extracurricular activities. But others aren't solely based on abstinence and distribute condoms.
The new focus on sex ed will replace abstinence-centered programs funded by President George H.W. Bush in the 1990s.
