Actors Diane Lane, Marcia Cross, and Mark Harmon will join more than 100 celebrities on Friday night for the "Stand Up to Cancer" telethon.
The hour-long fundraiser will be broadcast commercial-free by ABC, NBC, and CBS at 8 p.m. ET. Network anchors Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, and Brian Williams will co-host the event.
"We spend a lot of time on politics, a lot of time debating, a lot of times arguing. But let's remember who we are at the end of the day when we are families, and caregivers, and patients," Sawyer said.
Cancer takes one life each minute. In America, 1,500 people die from the disease each day.
However, progress is being made in combating the illness. Survival rates are higher than ever as scientists are getting closer to finding a cure.
Fundraisers hope this event will prompt Americans to stand together to raise money that can help save lives and fight a disease that affects everyone.
Since 2008, the Stand Up to Cancer telethon has raised more the $100 million for cancer research
