You may have heard of gastric bypass surgery, which is a serious weight loss procedure that involves removing part of the intestines.
So it's no wonder that shoppers on Amazon.com were stunned to see a gastric bypass kit for sale online.
Imagine just anyone buying a do-it-yourself gastric bypass kit, complete with surgical blade, syringe and scalpel on Amazon, a website most known for selling books.
The idea outraged family practitioner Dr. Linda Petter.
"Shock. Absolute shock. There's certain information, supplies that definitely should not be sold on the internet," Dr. Petter said.
Shoppers found the kit under the surgical supplies header, and at least one reviewer said this kit was easy to figure out.
The kit was the real deal, not a joke, but the seller, Med-Plus Inc., based out of New Jersey, said the kit is meant to be used in a medical facility
"This kit is not used for home. This is for a medical use, for professional use," Wally Mezh, an officer with Med-Plus, said.
But regardless of their intent, the fact is, anyone could have purchased the kits.
Amazon has since taken down this posting, but the incident illustrates just how easy it is to buy and sell dangerous items on the Internet.
