Texas is the latest state to pass a bill requiring doctors to perform a sonogram before a woman has an abortion.
The measure requires a sonogram to be given at least 24 hours before an abortion, providing women the opportunity to see the baby and hear its heartbeat
Doctors will also be required to explain what the sonogram shows to the woman.
Opponents say the law would interfere in the doctor-patient relationship. But others say it helps women understand what an abortion entails.
Gov. Rick Perry is expected to sign the bill into law soon.
State Rep. Sid Miller said the legislation is among the toughest sonogram requirements in the nation.
