Many New Yorkers are unhappy with Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to ban large, sugary drinks.

New York City council members criticized Bloomberg's proposal, with some asking if the mayor also planned on limiting unhealthy foods, like candy and burgers.

**New York City sugar ban a good idea?

The city's health commissioner, one of the people behind the proposal, said limiting sweet drinks would help in the fight against obesity.

Even so, a new NY1-Marist College poll shows that 53 percent of New York City residents oppose the ban.

"Well, I don't think it's the mayor's job to just decide what sort of soft drinks that people in Manhattan or anywhere in the world want to buy for that matter," one resident said.

The mayor will present the plan to the city's board of health next week. If it's approved, the ban would take effect next March.
