Study: Prayer Boosts Self-Control, Emotional Stability

A new German study concludes that prayer can boost your self-control and emotional stability, according to The London Daily Mail.

Earlier studies found when people simply tried hard to control their own emotions and thoughts, they tend to get angry or start binge drinking or eating.

But the German study says prayer gives people greater strength to maintain their self-control and ability to resist temptation.

Other studies have also found prayer helps people control themselves, including decreasing the levels drinking or avoiding adultery.

But the latest study, by German psychologists at Saarland University and the University of Mannheim, found that praying helps people maintain self-control.

The team claimed that participants who prayed at the start of the study still had high levels of self-control in the end.

The findings are published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology online.
