With the spike in flu cases across the country, many Americans are feeling pressure to get a flu vaccination.
However, a handful of doctors are recommending another route known as "naturopathy" for those who either fear needles or dread the possibility of an allergic reaction.
Dr. Adrian DenBoer, from Grand Rapids, Mich., promotes the idea. He believes that when a person is healthy, his or her body should be able to combat the flu without medication.
"It's been over 25-years since I had the flu or cold. You don't have to catch these things," DenBoer, who practices out of the DBC Natural Health Center, said.
Naturopathy doctors say that a healthy lifestyle starts with a proper diet, plenty of sleep, exercise and a limited intake of sugar.
DenBoer stresses the benefits of boosting the immune system through natural light. "That light has immune stimulating affects," he said.
The Naturopathy doc admits he is not opposed to "all" vaccines but believes they should be used sparingly.
He recommends patients supplement their diet with vitamin C and vitamin D.
