Too much sugar in your diet might not only cause disease and health problems, but it literally could be deadly, according to a new study from JAMA Internal Medicine.
Researchers said it doesn't take that much extra sugar to substantially raise the risk to your heart. The study focused on the association of added sugar intake with cardiovascular disease mortality.
Sugar is hidden in many processed foods and most Americans eat more than the safest amount. Drinking two 12 ounce cans of soda substantially raises the risk of heart problems for people who normally eat 2,000 calories a day.
The link between sugar and heart problems doesn't apply just to the overweight. It was also found in people who register at normal weights.
The safest amount of sugar to eat is less than 10 percent of your daily calories.
