The hundreds of thousands of people committed to fighting climate change left mounds of garbage in the wake of their weekend protest march through New York City.

Images posted on Twitter show piles of trash, including cardboard signs, plastic bottles, and garbage costumes left on the street or piled on top of sidewalk mailboxes and posts.

Now critics are calling out the demonstrators on what they view as their hypocrisy, and some have taken to social media.

"Their love for the Earth is so real, they couldn't even use a trash can," tweeted @chelsea_elisa.

In an interview with the New York Post, David Kreutzer from the Heritage Foundation criticized the protesters for using fossil fuels by taking planes and buses to Sunday's event.

"The hypocrisy varies from person to person," Kreutzer, told The Post. "The ones that fly in on private jets are the most hypocritical."
