Killer Comfort Food: Heart Disease Doesn't Discriminate

The types of foods often favored in the South - fried foods, sugary drinks like sweet tea, and processed meats like bacon -- can lead to a higher risk of a heart attack or heart disease, regardless of gender or race.

Those are the findings from a six-year study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
    
The lead researcher warns people who frequently eat a diet including those foods should be aware of their risk of heart disease.
    
He said people should cut back on such foods and substitute them with healthier ones, such as baked or grilled chicken, vegetables, and other healthy foods.
