CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - The Defense Ministry expects to have 500 concrete structures in place to protect southern residents from Palestinian rocket fire by year's end.
According to the Defense Ministry, the project is being accelerated during the temporary cease-fire, which began June 19 and continues despite occasional rocket fire from Gaza.
This week's distribution of 200 units completes phase one of the $4.2 million project.
The Defense Ministry will choose three companies to build the remaining 300 structures so the work can be accelerated.
Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai wants to place additional structures near schools before classes begin in September. Each unit can hold 60 to 70 children.
"I hope the other ministries will help advance the project because the reality can change tomorrow morning," Vinai said.
