CBNNews.com - KOCHAV YAAKOV, Israel - Israel's Bat-El Gatterer will represent the Jewish state in the Taekwondo martial arts competition at the summer Olympics in Beijing.
Gatterer's bronze medal at the European Olympic Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, won her a place on the Israeli team heading to Beijing.
The 21-year-old champion, who will compete in the 125-pound class, leaves for Beijing the day after her discharge from the army.
Gatterer is the eldest of six children. Her parents, who immigrated to Israel from France, moved to Kochav Yaakov shortly after it was founded in 1984.
Kochav Yaakov, less than 15 minutes from Jerusalem, is situated in northern Judea, not far from the Palestinian Authority city of Ramallah.
