CBNNews.com - SDEROT, Israel - Sderot police detained Israeli activist Dr. Jeff Halper Tuesday after he entered Israel at the Erez Crossing.
Halper, an anthropology professor at Ben Gurion University, took part in the Free Gaza protest, sailing with 43 other pro-Palestinian activists on two boats that arrived in Gaza Saturday.
After questioning, Halper, who also heads the Israeli Committee against House Demolitions, will be charged for entering a Palestinian-controlled area without proper documentation.
"Halper will be taken to court tomorrow," a spokesman for the Sderot police told the press.
According to Angela Godfrey-Goldstein, spokeswoman for the Free Gaza Movement, the text message she received on her cell phone, allegedly from Israel's foreign and interior ministries, allowing the two boats to land in Gaza, superseded the Southern Command Front order prohibiting Israelis from entering areas on Palestinian control.
Israel decided to allow the boats to dock to avoid the publicity stunt the foreign activists were seeking.
According to israel national news, the activists plan to sail from Gaza Thursday, taking with them several Gaza residents who were denied visas because of security clearances.
