CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Attorney General Menachem Mazuz is considering charging Arab MK (member of Knesset) Said Naffa (Balad) with visiting an enemy state and contacting a foreign agent.
In September 2007, during a visit to Damascus, Naffa met with exiled Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal and PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) deputy secretary-general Talal Naji.
Naffa claims he didn't meet with either of them.
"The accusation is an outright lie," Naffa said. "If I wanted to meet them, I would have done so in public. The entire visit has been documented and no such meeting took place," he said.
A decision will follow a judicial hearing in which Naffa will present his side of the case.
Notwithstanding the attorney general's announcement, Naffa plans to run in the Balad primaries later this week.
"If elected, I'll be a part of the Knesset roster. I'll make the decision about the hearing in the next few days," he said.
