ASHDOD, Israel - Residents of the Israeli coastal city of Ashdod and nearby communities of Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi have received instructions on how to respond in the event of rocket attacks by Gaza-based Palestinians.
"Due to the possibility that rockets will reach your place of residence, it is important that you and your family be prepared to face difficulties you are not familiar with in your everyday lives," a pamphlet from the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Home Front Command read.
"Experience has shown that people who learned how to cope with emergency situations and prepared themselves performed better at the moment of truth," it read.
Meanwhile, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip bombarded western Negev communities over the weekend, with more than 20 rockets and mortar shells hitting the area.
In response to an attack on Sderot, the IAF (Israel Air Force) targeted a rocket-launching cell en route to a launch pad in northern Gaza. No injuries were reported, though the IAF said they hit the target.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak said border crossings would remain closed to cargo Monday in response to the weekend attacks.
