CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - The Israeli Counter Terrorism Bureau (CTB) admonished Israelis not to visit India's Goa region.
In a travel advisory issued on Wednesday, the CTB called the warning "concrete and very high."
"The Goa region is a potentially tempting target for Islamic terror groups, particularly leading up to the New Year celebrations," the advisory stated. "The terror attacks in Mumbai and the current threat picture in the country…especially in light of the New Year's parties and events."
According to Digambar Kamat, India's chief minister of Goa, said while local security forces have beefed up their anti-terror measures, the region is particularly vulnerable because of the two million tourists who visit annually.
"Last year before Christmas we also received information indicating that Goa may be targeted," he said. "The terrorists are aware that launching an attack in this region would affect all of India," he said.
"We have taken the necessary precautions, including the bolstering of the Coast Guard and Navy's presence," he said.
The warning comes two weeks after Islamic terrorists killed 171 people in Mumbai, including six Jews at the Chabad center.
