CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - A new radar system will allow the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to more quickly locate and destroy rocket launching pads used by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Mounted directly on artillery canons, the new radar pinpoints the precise location of rocket launchers within a 360-degree sweep of an area.

"There is no radar like this in the world," IDF Brigadier General Michel Ben-Baruch told The Jerusalem Post.

"It can pinpoint the location of the launch and then find the range the canons will need to aim at to fire," he said.

The system, now in production by Elta Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, is one of several new technologies being developed for the IDF's Artillery Corps.

The new radar system will be operational within the next few months.
