CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - During gun battles Sunday between Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops and Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip, an Israeli soldier was seriously injured by sniper fire.
A member of the IDF's Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Reconnaissance Unit), the wounded soldier was evacuated by helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where he underwent surgery and remains in serious but stable condition.
Later in the day, Israel Air Force (IAF) planes providing air support for ground infantry killed the sniper and two other Palestinian terrorists.
Two of the gunmen were later identified as Hamas members and one was affiliated with the Popular Resistance Committees.
Fifteen people were wounded in the fighting. A civilian was also killed.
The counter-terror operation targeted rocket-launching cells near the airport in southern Gaza.
Bulldozers cleared some farmland, which was providing cover for rocket launching pads.
The IDF arrested at least 25 Palestinian gunmen, according to Hamas officials.
