CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Left-wing activists hope to breach the Gaza Naval blockade in two weeks.
Members of the International Solidarity Movement and the Israeli Commission against House Demolitions are organizing pro-Palestinian activists to sail from Cyprus and attempt to enter the Gaza Strip from the sea.
"The purpose is to get into the Gaza harbor and breach the siege," Angela Godfrey-Goldsetin said.
"The IDF [Israel Defense Forces] will probably stop us, but part of the point is to show that Gaza is closed off," she said.
The groups plan to leave Cyprus in two boats purchased for the event, which they've named the SS Free Gaza and the SS Liberty.
According to Godfrey-Goldstein, if the Israeli Navy prevents the boats from entering the sealed Gaza harbor, they will remain at sea for a few days to attract media attention, which they hope will pressure Israel to open the harbor.
The Israeli Navy patrols off the Gaza coast to thwart weapons smuggling by sea.
Iran is among the countries that attempts to smuggle weapons and other armaments into the Gaza Strip by dropping them at sea in floatable containers to be picked up by Gaza fishing boats.
