CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli Border policeman David Shriki died from wounds sustained two weeks ago in a shooting attack in Jerusalem's Old City.
On erev Shabbat (Friday evening) on July 11, a lone Arab gunman snuck up behind two border policemen and opened fired at close range, hitting Shriki in the head and his partner in the chest.
His partner managed to return fire, but the assailant fled -- under cover of darkness -- through a Muslim cemetery.
Though a surveillance camera taped the assault, the gunman's face was hidden in shadow and could not be identified.
Police have yet to determine if the attacker is a resident of an Arab neighborhood in east Jerusalem or if he came from a Palestinian Authority-controlled city in Judea or Samaria (the West Bank).
Arabs from east Jerusalem neighborhoods carry Israeli identity cards and can move freely throughout Israel.
