CBNNews.com - RAMALLAH, West Bank - The Palestinian Authority's (PA) chief prosecutor escaped unharmed Tuesday when a bomb went off as he started his car.
"I heard an explosion from the back of the car, and I ran away quickly," said Ahmed al-Mughni, prosecutor general for the PA.
The attempted assassination appears linked to Mughni's ongoing efforts to track down and expose broad-based financial corruption in the PA.
Mughbi is probing upwards of 50 cases of financial corruption and embezzlement of public funds among top PA officials.
According to Mughbi, several unnamed PA officials have been arrested during the past two years, while a number of others fled to other Arab countries.
Mughbi declined to speculate on possible suspects in the attempted assassination, saying that he's waiting to see what PA security forces in Ramallah discover.
