CBNNew.com - GAZA STRIP - A Palestinian sniper wounded an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier working along the security fence at the Gaza border.
On Tuesday, as IDF troops worked to uncover explosives along the border near the Kissufim crossing, a sniper's bullet moderately wounded a soldier, who was evacuated by helicopter to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
A 108-mm Katyusha rocket fired earlier Tuesday caused no injuries or structural damage when it landed in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council.
A few hours later, a Kassam rocket hit near a packing factory in a community in the Eshkol Regional Council. Five people injured by shrapnel were transported to Soroka Hospital.
IDF ground troops continue operating near the border to uncover smuggling tunnels, weapons caches and bombs planted near the security fence.
"Fighting in Gaza hasn't stopped for a moment, even if some days seem calmer," an Israeli military official said. "The troops are constantly working to thwart terror attacks, and they will continue to do just that," he said.
While Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, its spokesperson said a mortar shell, rather than a sniper's bullet, injured the soldier.
