CBNNews.com - Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers at the Hawara checkpoint south of Nablus shot and killed a would-be suicide bomber attempting to cross into Israel.
Around 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, soldiers saw wires protruding from the clothes of a young Arab approaching the checkpoint.
"A young Palestinian, who seemed confused, arrived at the checkpoint," IDF Corporal Michal Ya'akov said.
"When he reached the turnstile, I stopped him and asked that he pass through the metal detector. The apparatus beeped when he went through [so] I asked him what he had on his body," she said.
Lifting up his shirt, he responded "nothing" in Arabic, while exposing the pipe bombs strapped to the right side of his body.
"I identified the explosive devices and yelled 'explosives in the checkpoint' and cocked my rifle," Corporal Ya'akov said.
"Everyone [the soldiers] aimed at the Palestinian's head and neck so as not to set off the explosive device," she said.
She ordered him to lift his shirt up.
"The Palestinian raised his arms up for two seconds, then pulled them down and reached for the explosive device," she said, at which point the commander at the checkpoint shot and killed him.
IDF soldiers deployed at the Hawara checkpoint have thwarted numbers of attempted terror attacks, confiscating explosive devices and knives from Palestinians there.
